Home Sweet Home

We have been home for a couple of days. Thank the Lord. I have missed my family so much. Trey arranged with the airlines to meet us at the gate! What a wonderful surprise to see them when we got off the plane. A friend of ours that is a photographer came with them and was able to capture our reunion. What a sweet reunion is was! Xiang Yi met...

Last Day in China!

Well, this is it! We leave tomorrow morning at 5:30am to catch our flight to Hong Kong and then onto the States. It will be so nice to be with our family, and for everyone to get to know our beautiful daughter.

Our journey to adopt Xiang Yi has been a leap of faith. Her needs are more severe than expected, and we are not sure if she h...

Out in Guangzhou

I took Xiang Yi this morning for her first dip in the pool. She loved the water. We stayed in the kiddie pool area, and I showed her how to kick her legs in the water. I am so pleased that she is not afraid of it.

Our guide took us for a tour today of the Six Banyan Temple. It was really pretty, and if you werenít too close, the incense...

Sunday in China

We had a good day. No meltdowns, only pouting when she did not get her way. And she doesnít pout very long before she moves on and is happy again.

I am eating so much better now. The White Swan Hotel breakfast, it is simply amazing. They have everything that you could imagine for breakfast and more. This morning Xiang Yi wanted chick...

Guangzhou

Xiang Yi and I arrived into Guangzhou late yesterday evening. We were both wiped out. On the way to the airport our guide picked up KFC for dinner. I ordered popcorn chicken and mashed potatoes for both of us. Xiang Yi was hungry so she ate on the way to the airport. She loved the chicken and offered me a bite of hers. I took a little bite an...

Last Day in Changsha

I am so ready to move on to Guangzhou. Not that I havenít enjoyed being in Changsha, but I am ready to bring Xiang Yi home and be with my family again. I am tired and worn out right now, and I hope that a change of scenery will help.

Last night a lady from housekeeping knocked on our room door at 11:30 pm wanting to know if I needed an...

Embroidery Museum and Factory

This morning we went to the Embroidery Museum and Factory. I have been looking forward to seeing the Hunan embroidery, as I have cross-stitched for many years and know how time consuming this kind of work can be. After seeing these ladies work, I am embarrassed to try to put myself in the same category. And I am sure they would get a good chuckl...

Photography Studio

This morning Xiang Yi and I had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel buffet. She had boiled eggs, ham, yogurt, and corn on the cob. I was so happy to see her eating well, but worried a little that it would upset her stomach and possibly make her sick again. I have been so hungry on this trip. I think it has just been nerves until today, worrying ...

Civil Affairs - It's Official

This morning, we went down for breakfast and after breakfast, we went outside to see this huge waterfall that is in the hotel parking entrance. I saw a bunch of women dancing a little ways down the street so we headed over there. The music was so nice, and the ladies were so happy dancing with each other. I started dancing with Xiang Yi, as I he...

Family Day!

It is almost midnight now, and I am still in shock that Xiang Yi is safe and warm sleeping in her bed near me. I am so happy how easily it has gone this time. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

I will try to start from the very beginning of the day, as I know that as time passes I will forget how magical this day has been.

A Day of Touring in Beijing

Today has been an action packed day!

The weather was absolutely perfect for being outside and seeing the sights of Beijing.

Our first tour was the Forbidden City. I was excited that we toured an area that I had not seen before, and there were hardly any tourist around.

The next stop was the Great Wall of China. I wish I could capture its beauty and size in a pic...

In Beijing

It is hard to believe that I am in China. It just seems like yesterday that we were here to bring Katherine home.

The flight from Chicago to Beijing was wonderful, as wonderful as a 13 hour flight can be. There were just a few people sitting in my area of the plane, and we were able to spread out and each person had a whole row to themselves. I actually got to lie down and sleep a little.

I am missing my family so much already. I went out for a l...

New Pictures !!!

We received new pictures of Xiang Yi. She is simply precious!

We canít wait to put our arms around her and tell her that everything is going to be ok. It is so hard to see her growing up without us, her family. We also received some new medical information about her. The orphanage doctor took a recent x-ray of her leg, and found that her leg in fact had never been broken, but believes that her legs have a ...
