New Pictures

We have posted some new pictures in the different Photo Albums.

We developed the film from our 35mm camera and added a few pictures to the various photo albums from our trip. We also posted some of the pictures of Katherine at the orphanage. The nannies took a roll of pictures of her with the disposable camera we sent with a care package in February.

We’re Home ... Finally!

We made it back home this morning!

Wow, what a long, long 2 days it has been. We woke up at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday and headed for the Guongzhou airport and flew into Hong Kong. We had a 3 hour layover in Hong Kong and it gave us a chance to stretch our legs and get prepared for the 15 hour flight into Chicago. The flight is draining as it is, but just imagine flying for that length...

Going Home!

It is our last night in China, and our last post until we arrive home on Thursday evening.

Today we went to the U.S Consulate in Guongzhou for the swearing in ceremony for Katherine to become a U.S. citizen. Once we land in Chicago she will be an American! We feel so blessed that she is now a part of our family.

Today was also the red couch photo day. The red couch photo is a tradition with families adopting from China. Th...

Typhoon Coming!

We have been in our own little world here.

We have been in our own little world here and we can hardly keep track of what day it is; so imagine our surprise when we learned that there is a typhoon heading our way and should hit tomorrow. Our guide said not to be too alarmed, but we really don’t know what to expect from a typhoon. We will keep you posted, and pray that it won’t be bad.

Medical Exam Day

Today was Katherine’s required doctor visit at the local hospital before she is able to leave the country.

Needless to say, Katherine was not pleased about it! She was so worked up by the time that we left that her entire head was wet with sweat, and then she fell asleep shortly after. We found the sign in the waiting area quite amusing … “Keep Quiet”

We also got some shopping done. We bought Katherine some leather shoes for about $4 a pair a...

Happy Mother's Day

What a wonderful Mother’s Day it was.

I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Katherine is blossoming like a flower. She is starting to walk and smiles now. It is so nice to see her happy. She is shy and has a pretty laid back personality. She seems so happy with the smallest things.

A funny thing happened yesterday. Hunter was changing into his bathing suit so Trey an...

We Made it to Guangzhou

We have made it to Guangzhou and are staying at the White Swan Hotel.

The White Swan is a very nice hotel where MANY families stay that are adopting babies. Everywhere you look there are little children all with new families. It is so nice to be here and not be such an oddity. In Taiyuan, it was becoming a little uncomfortable in the way people would stop and stare at us. We knew they were just curious, but the regar...

Katherine makes progress.

Yesterday was a day filled with many prayers and tears.

We have felt all of your prayers for Katherine, and God is answering them! Our sweet little Katherine made progress last night. We were able to sit with her on the bed and show her all of her new toys we brought. This is the first time we have been able to put her down. She watched us show her the toys and then started discovering them herself...

Katherine is sick.

Our sweet little Katherine is very sick.

Hello all. Our sweet little Katherine is very sick. We emailed a pediatrician in Concord, NC that specializes in international adoption. He is a very kind Christian man that has been most helpful when we chose to adopt Katherine. We emailed him last night at around 1:00am our time, to let him know what was going on with Katherine and if he had ...

It’s Official

Dang Kang Yang (Katherine Mei) is officially ours.

We completed all the paperwork and formalities at the Civil Affairs Office this morning.

Katherine has had a very difficult time. She only slept 4 hours last night and we had to pace around the room with her to sooth her. She insists on being held and carried around all the time. She cries so hard and rubs her eyes if we set her down … we...

Gotcha Day

We have our sweet "Sunshine"

We have our precious little girl in our arms now, we have posted pictures of this wonderful day. Actually, the CCAA only granted us guardians for 24 hours (this is standard policy) and we will return to the civil affairs office in the morning to complete the paperwork and finalize the adoption.

When we arrived at the civil affairs office t...

We have made it to Taiyuan.

It has been another long day.

We set out this morning for our first taxi cab ride in China, to visit the Silk Street Market. Five of us crammed into a very small vehicle. This was an interesting ride because lane markings and traffic signals appear to be purely optional, so long as you have a working horn. The market was very exciting. This is the first market that we have ...

Busy Tour Day

Greetings all! Wow, what an action packed day today was!

We woke up this morning at 2:30 a.m., and were unable to get back to sleep. At around 6:00 a.m. we couldn’t stand to be in our hotel room any longer, and decided to venture out on a walk. It is the last day of a national week long holiday here, and we have been told that the traffic and congestion is much lighter than usual. The streets were rea...

We Made It

Beijing - Day One

We can’t believe it, we are finally here! It has been a very long day. We have been up for over 24 hours now, but we wanted to let everyone know we made it to Beijing safely, and we are looking forward to seeing the Great Wall of China, and the Forbidden City tomorrow. We have had a couple of unusual things happen today, but I guess that is all ...

China Bound!

We can not believe it is the night before we are leaving for China!!

It still seems so hard to believe that we will be holding Katherine in just a few short days. All of our bags are packed, and we will leave our house at 5:15a.m. tomorrow morning to catch our flight to Chicago. From Chicago we will change planes, have a short layover, and fly 13 hours non-stop from Chicago to Beijing. We have been so touched by...

The China Adoption Program

Our adoption process from China has had four major steps.

We did a lot of research on adoption agencies and decided on a wonderful agency called Christian World Adoption. We submitted an application to CWA, and after it was processed and approved, we started what is called the PAPER CHASE. During this process, birth certificates, marriage certificate, employment verification, net worth verification and ...

Why Adopt? Why China?

We’ve been asked many times now, “Why did you decide to adopt, and why China?”

We’ve been asked many times now, “Why did you decide to adopt, and why China?” and we always find it difficult to really put into a brief response something that has grown deeply in our hearts. The simplest and truest answer is that we feel this is God’s plan for our family. We believe He has placed a few special people and cirmcumstances in our l...

About China

About China - Preference for Boys & Abandonment of Baby Girls

China is the most populous country in the world with 1.2 billion people (22% of the world’s population). China’s one-child policy is enforced in varying degrees in different regions of the country. In some regions, a couple must apply to the government and receive an authorized schedule of when it is “their turn” to try for pregnancy. The penalt...
