We’re Home ... Finally!

May 19, 2006

We made it back home this morning!

Wow, what a long, long 2 days it has been. We woke up at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday and headed for the Guongzhou airport and flew into Hong Kong. We had a 3 hour layover in Hong Kong and it gave us a chance to stretch our legs and get prepared for the 15 hour flight into Chicago. The flight is draining as it is, but just imagine flying for that length of time with a toddler. Katherine was a real trooper though, only fussing when we changed her diaper. But it is a hard trip none the less to make with children.

When we arrived in Chicago we were delayed in customs and missed our connecting flight. We were told we would fly standby for the next flight; however, a storm rolled in shortly after our arrival and several flights were cancelled, including ours. We were told the next flight would leave at 6:25 a.m. the next day. Fortunately, a nice woman at United took care of us, and we were able to stay in a hotel for the night. Many travelers were not so fortunate and we saw them sleeping in the airport the next morning.

Anyway, you know that movie “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles”? Where Steve Martin and John Candy are trying to find their way home by any means, but can’t seem to get there? That is how we felt at this point. We had been awake for over 24 hours, and we still weren’t home. We finally arrived home this morning and were heading to our car … we couldn’t help but comment how clean the air felt. All the way home we noticed things that we had taken for granted, and feel so blessed to be living in such a wonderful country. A wonderful balloon bouquet and thoughtful gifts greeted Katherine home. It feels so good to be home, and I am sure it won’t be long before we have a routine again.

We have received so many emails and notes saying how much they enjoyed following our journey to Katherine. And we will continue to update Katherine’s website and her progress each week. We want to thank everyone again for your goodness and concern for our family. We thank God to have Katherine in our lives, as well as such loving family and friends.

With Love,
Michelle, Trey, Hunter and Katherine

We are letting you recuperate a little and get Katherine settled into her new home, and we will call you in a few days to hear more! Glad you are back home safely.
