Medical Exam Day

May 15, 2006

Today was Katherine’s required doctor visit at the local hospital before she is able to leave the country.

Needless to say, Katherine was not pleased about it! She was so worked up by the time that we left that her entire head was wet with sweat, and then she fell asleep shortly after. We found the sign in the waiting area quite amusing … “Keep Quiet”

We also got some shopping done. We bought Katherine some leather shoes for about $4 a pair after we haggled down the price. Trey is my human calculator as I have him calculate the rate from Chinese Yuan to U.S. dollars and then I try to get the salesperson to lower the price. We are quite the team!

We have also noticed that Katherine does not like to be spoken to in Chinese. When we are walking around outside, the locals try to talk with her. She gets a panicked look on her face and leans away from them. We have heard that older adopted children find comfort in being spoken to in their native language. Not Katherine. She really gets nervous about being around Chinese people in general, which seems very odd to us.

It is bed time now, and little Miss Katherine and Hunter are both getting a bit cranky. We will have our consulate appointment tomorrow, just one more step to take before we can come home. We miss everyone and thank you once again for all your kind comments and emails … and especially for your prayers.

Have a wonderful day!

Michelle, Trey, Hunter and Katherine

Michelle, I have been praying for all of you and I am happy to hear that Katherine is feeling better. That is truly a blessing. I have asked both of my daughters and friends to be praying for her continued good health and easy adjustment to her new family and surroundings. I am happy to hear that you had a wonderful Mother's Day...it takes on a new meaning when there is a new "little blessing" to run after. I pray for continued safe travels and the Lord's greatest blessings for all of you!!!!

Was the doctor able to determine what had caused Katherine's illness? I am so glad she is feeling better. We are impatient for you all to get back! I know it is doubly difficult for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences with us all.
Carol
