Happy Mother's Day

May 14, 2006

What a wonderful Mother’s Day it was.

I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Katherine is blossoming like a flower. She is starting to walk and smiles now. It is so nice to see her happy. She is shy and has a pretty laid back personality. She seems so happy with the smallest things.

A funny thing happened yesterday. Hunter was changing into his bathing suit so Trey and he could go swimming while Katherine took her nap. Hunter left his clothes on the floor (naturally) and Katherine came up behind him, picked up his clothes and gave them to me. We joked that she was already picking up after her messy big brother. She also gets upset if she drops something on the floor while eating, and wants it picked up immediately. I get the feeling that she was expected to clean up after herself at the orphanage.

We are in Guangzhou now and loving the hotel. The city is very different than Beijing and Taiyuan. It has a western feel to it. For lunch we dined at, you guessed it, another Chinese restaurant. This restaurant was very noisy and the people were talking so loudly that is sounded like they were shouting at each other. Trey leans over to me and says, “There’s a cat”. I couldn’t imagine what he could be talking about, and he shouted, “A cat just walked by.” Another first for us! We also went on a river cruise down the Pearl River. This is the third largest river in China. It was a beautiful night out and it was nice to just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery.

We are ready to be home, and enjoy the comforts that we have grown accustomed to, but I know that when we leave in a few days my heart will be heavy as we will be leaving Katherine’s birth place.

We hope everyone had as nice of a Mother’s Day

Love,
The Smith Family

We have been gone out of town for 24 hours and I couldn't wait to log back on to see what was new with little Katherine! This has indeed been special for so many of us back in the states to share in this blessing in your lives. I can't wait to hear about this trip through Hunter's version as it will be colorful like only a little child can describe. It seems so amazing the wonderful changes Katherine has made in less than 48 hours! Only God could do this. Much love, The Sigmons

What priceless pictures! Hunter and his sis look so photogenic together! And Katherine is beginning to look as if she enjoys the photo shoots! What a memorable Mother's Day for you and your family! Take care and know that you are in my prayers constantly, almost every time I hear or see a plane! See you real soon. Love, Janet

Happy Mother's Day Michelle! Sounds like Katherine's blossoming and relaxing into the family is the best gift you could get!
