homemade applesauce

applesauceWho thought making homemade applesauce would be so easy and oh so good?  It never really crossed my mind to make my own applesauce…until recently.

My grocery store occasionally marks down 3 pound bags of apples for a $1.00.  They usually have a few bruises on them, but are still very much edible.  The other day they had ALOT of bags marked down, and I just couldn’t pass up the deal, so I bought 4 bags and thought I would try to make applesauce in the crockpot.  The apples cooked all day.  The smell of apples and cinnamon wafting through the house was delightful!  I was so pleased with how easy and delicious it turned out, I had to share.

Crock Pot Applesauce
4 lbs. apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 – 1 cup water
1 Tbl. lemon juice
Mix apples (about 12 cups) with cinnamon and sugar and put into the crock pot.  Pour water and lemon juice over apples.  Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
